Admission Policy

Shigakkan University Graduate School of Wellness is the Japan’s first graduate school specialized in health science.
The educational philosophy of Shigakkan University Graduate School of Wellness is "Capacity Building for Global Citizenship" that is to contribute to more healthy and affluent society creation with academic establishing development of the true health science centering on fitness, nutrition and refreshment.
Its concrete educational goal is “training students to be a competent health instructor with high level of specialized knowledge, practical skills and the human ability regarding health retention and enhancement”.
Our graduate school arranges 3 courses; Study of Health Fitness
Course, Study of Health Nutrition Course and Study of Health
Refreshment Course, and those courses are to master and research regarding health promotion through theories and practices.
Our graduate school wants students understanding the above educational philosophy and objectives, actively addressing various health problems, aiming for "Capacity Building for Global Citizenship" and aspiring to become a health instructor/researcher with the advanced and professional knowledge and skills through mastering one’s major.
Additionally, for learning in our graduate school, we expect students to acquire the basic knowledge in health, also to study fitness, nutrition and physical/mental refreshment in universities.

Curriculum Policy

The above educational objectives and diploma policy to be accomplished, Shigakkan University Graduate School of Wellness arranges 3 courses; Study of Health Fitness Course, Study of Health Nutrition Course and Study of Health Refreshment Course, and students must elect one of them as their major.
The curriculum consists of All-Course Subjects and the Advanced Subjects that the each course provides for study and research. All-Course Compulsory Subjects, Course Compulsory Subjects and Elective Subjects are included within.
As All-Course Subjects, the graduate school provides Health Science Special Lecture I, II for understanding the interdisciplinary Health Science Studies, also, Health Fitness Special Lecture, Health Nutrition Special Lecture and Health Refreshment Special Lecture as the each course representative.
Also, as Course Compulsory Subjects, practices and research subjects for acquisition of pragmatic skills in students’ own elected
professional discipline are provided.
Students must elect and earn 6 credits from the following Elective
Subjects to reinforce the highly advanced knowledge in their professional disciplines.
The lectures are offered in the first year so as to leverage, apply and implement the advanced knowledge through the practices and research subjects in the second year.
Besides, for the completion of master degree course, the prescribed credits below are required;
All-Course Compulsory Subjects: 6cr.
Course Compulsory Subjects: 8cr.
Elective Compulsory Credit: 6cr.
Free Elective Subjects from All-Course Subjects and each course subjects: 6cr.
Total 30 cr.

Outline of Academic Disciplines

The main content of All-Course Subjects and each course subjects are as follows;

All-Course Subjects

For acquiring the broad knowledge of the disciplines of fitness, nutrition and refreshment, also the skills to collect health information accurately and process it.

Study of Health Fitness Course

For acquiring the highly advanced knowledge and skills of kinesiology, biomechanics, sports medicine, health education studies and training science studies for clarifying the influence on human body structures and functions by physical exercise, moreover the ability to scientifically lead and research various health fitness and exercise problems.

Study of Health Nutrition Course

For acquiring the highly advanced knowledge and skills of fitness/sports, nutrition, growth/development and nutrition, nutritional instruction, nutritional treatment and functional food for clarifying the influence on human body structures and functions by food ingestion, furthermore the ability to scientifically lead and research various nutrition problems.

Study of Health Refreshment Course

For acquiring the highly advanced knowledge and skills of exercise and rest methods, physical/mental healing methods, psychology, kinesiology and physiology, in addition the ability to scientifically lead and research various refreshment problems.

Diploma Policy

The Master Degree is awarded when the requirements are satisfied; earned the prescribed credits and passed the final examination of the master thesis under the necessary research instruction.
In addition to the judgement of course completion, the requirements below must be satisfied as well.

Students address various health problems actively, and acquire "Capacity Building for Global Citizenship", "Wellness", "Intellectual Insight", "Social Ability", "Self Development", and "Effective Citizenship" to solve the issues with scientific methods.

Students gain the coaching and researching skills to concretely apply and practice the advanced knowledge of fitness, nutrition and refreshment.

The completion requirements for each course are given below;

Study of Health Fitness Course

Students master the advanced knowledge and skills regarding the fitness for health retention and enhancement, and utilize them for the health fitness instruction and research.

Study of Health Nutrition Course

Students master the advanced knowledge and skills regarding nutrition for health retention and enhancement, and utilize them for nutritional instruction.

Study of Health Refreshment Course

Students master the advanced knowledge and skills regarding physical and mental refreshment for health retention and enhancement, and utilize them for health promoting instruction and research.
