Admission Policy

The educational objective of the Department of Nutrition is that to foster students to obtain the enriched personality and high level of specialized knowledge about nutrition and exercise as a dietitian, and to contribute to human health.
The department provides the characteristic courses for acquisition of licenses of nutritionist, national registered dietitian, nutrition teacher
and Health Fitness Instructor. These specialized courses are for training students to acquire the advanced knowledge and skills in nutrition and fitness for health in the field of hospital, welfare institution, school or company in the future.
Therefore, following students with strong sense of purpose are desired.

1 Those who endeavor to become a national registered dietitian contributing to human health with high level of advanced knowledge and techniques regarding nutrition science.
2 Those who are interested in the relationships between exercise and nutrition, and aspire to become a national registered dietitian in the sports team and sports club field.
3 Those who are interested in the relationships between disease prevention, treatment and nutrition, and aspire to become a national registered dietitian in the clinical nutrition field such as hospitals and welfare institutions.
4 Those who are interested in child dietary education, and aspire to become a dietitian in nursery school and kindergarten or nutrition teacher in elementary school and junior high school.
5 Those who are interested in cookery, food processing and functional ingredients, and aspire to work at school lunch cafeteria or food industry to manage the food quality and develop the products.

In sum, for learning in the Department of Nutrition, we expect students to learn “human body structures”, “substance compositions” and “nutrition” from Biology, Chemistry and Home Economy classes in high school.

Curriculum Policy

The Department of Nutrition systematically arranges the 13 academic disciplines based on the above educational objectives and the diploma policy. For freshman and sophomore, the department offers students the courses with a small group classes to perceive their progress in learning, also the specialized seminars in order to reinforce the links between the Liberal Arts Subjects and the Specialized Subjects.
As Specialized Subjects, the department organizes the lectures, the experiments and the practices to nurture nutritionist capable of
instructing fitness as well. The subjects are fundamentally aimed at grasping the human life from an aspect of dietary and health, furthermore nutrition for health maintenance and improvement, the life style-related diseases prevention and sick and wounded patient treatment. Additionally, to gain the comprehensive skills of management of planning, implementation and evaluation of nutritional care based on proper nutritional assessment.
The department provides the distinctive curriculum including sports nutrition and health fitness too.

Outline of Academic Disciplines

Health Science
(All-Department)
To obtain the comprehensive knowledge of the physical, mental, and social health including body changes with aging, moreover, the broad knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and refreshment for maintaining and promoting importance of health.
Nutrition To comprehend what nutrition and its significance are, the roles of the nutrients in health management and improvement, prevention from diseases and treatment from the point of view of digestion, internal kinetics and metabolism regulation.
In addition, acquire the academic and practical knowledge and skills of nutritional management including nutritional assessment withy consideration of age, physical and nutritional status.
Sitology/Cookery Studies To develop the general knowledge of food ingredients such as nutrient, palatable, functional ingredients and so on, furthermore gain the practical cookery and food process techniques with learning of each food group/ food nutritional characteristics and changes due to cooking and processing.
Health/Hygiene To grasp the human health management and improvement with social and environmental association, learn about basic health, medication, welfare as social issues and environmental factor.
Also, understand the public health administration, regulations and community health strategies, and acquire the basic knowledge and practical skills regarding food labeling and food hygiene.
Anatomical Physiology/Biochemistry To gain the basic knowledge about the human body biology and how it works with comprehension of systematical human body structures/functions, its constituent element structures/ functions and kinetics with medical/biological scientific view.
Clinical Condition/Clinical Medicine To learn the disease factors, pathophysiology, symptoms and diagnosis, clinical analysis and treatment associated with nutrition and dietary habit. With that knowledge, be able to explain the human body structure.
Clinical Nutrition To apprehend comprehensive management regarding nutritional care planning and implementing for proper nutritional management based on clinical condition and nutritional status. Moreover, be able to practice the specific nutritional status analysis/judgement, nutritional support planning and nutrition education.

Diploma Policy

The Department of Nutrition awards students with Bachelor Degree of Arts
in Nutrition when the requirements of the prescribed credits and skills below have been satisfied.

1 Students those who acquire the specialized knowledge, and explore nutrition and health from the perspective of science to analyze and solve issues.
2 Students those who are well-versed with broad knowledge in nutrition and health, also contribute to human health.
3 Students those who contribute to human health promotion with nutritional management and disease prevention and treatment as nutritionists or national registered dietitians with specialized knowledge in diet and nutrition.
