Department of Athletic Trainer Advanced Course Educational Policy

Admission Policy

The educational objectives of the Department of Athletic Trainer Advanced Course, Shigakkan University Junior College are to “develop a well-rounded character with advanced and specialized knowledge and practical skills that are required to become an athletic trainer, and cultivate people skills that will contribute to human health.”
This program, which is aimed at developing athletic trainers (who assist athletes), offers a form of education that places an emphasis on developing advanced and specialized knowledge and technology for athletic training and rehabilitation.
Therefore, students with a vision and a strong sense of purpose who fulfill the following criteria are desired.

Those aspiring to become athletic trainers who have acquired specialized scientific knowledge and skills on rehabilitation, massaging, taping, and icing.

Those aspiring to become athletic trainers who have acquired specialized knowledge regarding the structure and functions of the human body as well as sports medicine.

While studying in our advanced course, we expect students to earn credits for the athletic trainer development courses (and related courses), which are offered by the Department of
Physical Education, Shigakkan University Junior College, as well as experience of an extensive amount of training activities.

Curriculum Policy

The curriculum for the Advanced Course will be organized systematically by combining lectures and seminars with practical subjects as a means of realizing the educational objectives and diploma policy.

Lectures and Seminars

Lectures and seminars will be offered aimed at developing specialized knowledge of the athletic trainers described below.
 

  • Course aimed at developing specialized scientific knowledge and skills for rehabilitation aimed at returning to competition.
  • Course aimed at developing specialized scientific knowledge for enhancing the performance of athletes.
  • Course aimed at developing specialized knowledge for measuring and assessing physical fitness as well as conditioning.
  • Course aimed at developing specialized knowledge on the structure and functions of the human body as well as sports injuries.

Practical Subjects

Practical subjects will be offered aimed at developing the skills described below, which include massaging, taping, and icing.

  • Course aimed at developing athletic rehabilitation and conditioning skills.
  • Course aimed at developing practical skills for athletic trainers.

Diploma Policy

The Advanced Course, in order to achieve the above educational objectives, awards a certificate of completion to students who have earned the number of credits prescribed by the department and have acquired the skills listed below.

1 Student those who acquire specialized scientific knowledge and skills for rehabilitation and will be able to utilize them as an athletic trainer.
2 Student those who acquire specialized knowledge regarding the structure and functions of the human body as well as sports medicine and will be able to utilize them as an athletic trainer.
3 Student those who acquire specialized knowledge and practical skills for measuring and assessing physical fitness and is able to utilize them when assisting athletes with conditioning.
4 Student those who acquire skills such as massaging, taping, and icing, and is able to utilize them as an athletic trainer.
