The Department of Physical Education, Junior College was founded in 1950 as the Physical Education Department, Chukyo Women's Junior College. It has the longest tradition and history at our university, as it has produced a wealth of teachers, top-caliber athletes, as well as proficient athletic coaches.
The department’s educational objectives are to “develop a well-rounded character with specialized knowledge and practical skills that are required to become a physical education or sports and exercise coach, and cultivate people skills that will contribute to human health.”
In addition, the department provides courses for acquiring a junior high school teacher (physical education) license and various other coaching qualifications related to sports and health.
These courses offer a distinct form of education that places an emphasis on developing specialized knowledge and practical skills which will be necessary when going out into the real world and working as a coach in a variety of sports or as a health promotion coach.
Therefore, students with a vision and a strong sense of purpose who fulfill the following criteria are desired at our department.

While studying in our department, we expect students to actively participate not only in the academic learning activities held at high schools, but also in extracurricular activities, school events, and volunteer activities,
as well as communicate with other people as much as possible through physical exertion activities.
The curriculum for the Department of Physical Education is based on our educational philosophy and objectives. The Liberal Arts Subjects, which are aimed at cultivating a well-rounded character,
and the Specialized Subjects, which are aimed at developing specialized knowledge and practical skills, are organized based on the following policies.
The Liberal Arts Subjects, which are aimed at cultivating a well-rounded character, are organized as described below.
The Specialized Subjects are aimed at achieving the educational objectives as well as the diploma policy, and the following four academic disciplines will be offered.
In addition, two sample courses will be offered - the “Physical Education Course” and the “Athletic Trainer Course” - for more specialized and effective learning. These courses are chosen by the students according to their future plans.

In an aim to achieve the educational objectives described above, the Department of Physical Education awards students with an associate degree in Physical Education if the number of credits prescribed by the department as well as the skills below have been satisfied.
